His education included a graduate degree in Forestry from Oregon State University. Following his discharge, he enrolled at USC and earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Education in 1954. He then began his long career with Pasadena City Schools until his retirement in 1981. He coached and taught all sports but his expertise was gymnastics and football. He also became a National Gymnastics Judge and was assigned both high school and college meets.
Because of his passion for the mountains Jack joined the Montrose Search and Rescue Team in 1963 and spent a devoted 21 years.
Jack loved woodworking, golf, bridge, and oil painting.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol, brother Jim, son Jack (Ty), and daughters Sandy Wright, Carol McKnight, Joyce Amato, Terri Riley, Patti Maloof, and Cindy Porcell, as well as 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial is planned for Thursday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. at La Canada Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montrose Search and Rescue Team.
