Credit union paints BCR facility

Lockheed Federal Credit Union employees participated in the Partner to Paint project on April 14 to give the 48-year-old nonprofit BCR's "a place to grow" facility a facelift.

BCR, located at 230 E. Amherst Drive in Burbank, provides day activities and extended daycare programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. BCR.

Twenty-five credit union employee volunteers spent the day painting the exterior of the facility. The Partner to Paint project began in 2006, and is designed to provide assistance to the community by painting — free of charge — a local structure in need of exterior paint.

"Our employees are honored to help improve BCR's facilities," said Dave Styler, president and chief executive of the credit union.

The credit union offers company paid time off to volunteer in the community. Each employee can receive up to eight hours per year to volunteer during the workday.

"We are so pleased to receive this community service from Lockheed Federal Credit Union," said Lonna Grant, executive director of BCR's "a place to grow."

This BCR facility paint project was made possible in part through the support of Tim Tilton of T&T Improvements Painting Co., Dunn-Edwards Paints and Santoro's Submarine Sandwiches.

BCR "a place to grow," formerly known as Burbank Center for the Retarded, opened its doors in 1963 as a day program serving adults with developmental disabilities at the First Congregational Church of Burbank. BCR's programs focus on developing socially appropriate and responsible behavior, basic skills of daily living, problem solving, nutrition, physical fitness and more.
