Bob Thompson passed away at home on May 11, 2011, at the age of 83, after a life devoted to his church and family.

Bob Thompson was born in Arcola, Mississippi to Robert and Edna Thompson. Bob earned his undergraduate degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. In his senior year, Bob won an architectural design competition and was awarded a Steadman Fellowship to spend a year studying and traveling throughout Europe. In 1962, Bob returned to Washington University where he earned his Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design.

Bob married Patty Allen on August 16, 1958, and lived briefly in both Albuquerque and St. Louis before moving to California in 1963. In 1968 they settled in Glendale, where they lived for 43 years and raised three children, Robert, Jill, and Kimberly. During this time, Bob worked as an architect and urban planner for several large architectural firms including Ralph M. Parsons in Pasadena.

Bob was a longtime, devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, where he served as an elder. Along with his wife Patty, Bob lovingly taught Sunday school to the four-year-olds at Hollywood Pres for nearly 40 years.

Bob was a kind, gentle, and thoughtful man with a big smile and a bigger heart. He is survived by his wife and children; his sister Lannese Crump; and three grandchildren, Aidan, Lina, and Ellie.

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood on Saturday May 21st at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to Compassion International, 800-336-7676.
