Right idea, wrong location

June 03, 2011

The Glendale Community College Board of Trustees in August adopted guidelines that limit smoking to seven designated areas along the perimeter of the college’s campus in an effort to curb secondhand smoke and to reduce the amount of cigarette butts and ashes on campus (“College enforces new smoking policy,” April 27).

It’s very good idea that they adopted the guideline. However, they didn’t pick right places for smoking. One of the main designed areas is located on the left side of the college entrance. How is a college entrance a good place for smoking?

Before they adopted the guideline I rarely smelled cigarette smoke on campus. Now I have to pass a cloud of cigarette smoke to get to my class.
