Lawmakers honor local business women

State legislators honored six local women during a luncheon Friday for contributing to the business community and serving as role models.

“Women make up a key part in the success of our economics and our recovery,” said keynote speaker Lisa Stevens of Wells Fargo Bank, adding that “women get better with age” because they are better at realizing perspective and learning from past experiences.

Sen. Carol Liu and Assembly members Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake) and Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) celebrated the accomplishments of the following women:

Liza Boubari, owner of Heal Within in Glendale, who is also on the board of the Glendale YMCA.

Kim Milstien, vice president of business development at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, who also sits on the advisory committee of the Salvation Army Alegria House.

Dale Morimizu Gorman, executive director of Kids Community Dental Clinic of Burbank, which has served 4,000 patients.

Roubina Der Sarkissian, who is business development manager at Glenoaks Escrow in Glendale and a volunteer at the Armenian Relief Center.

Robin Goldsworthy, editor of the Crescenta Valley Weekly, who also helps organize the Taste of Montrose.

Dr. Katrina Demaris Miller, who is a faculty physician and curriculum director of the family medicine residency program at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where she has her clinical practice.

Citing findings from a recent edition of the Harvard Business Review, Stevens said, “How do you make a team smarter?…More women.”
