Farmers participate in Burbank’s party
The Burbank Certified Farmers Market was invited by the city of Burbank to participate in the “Party of the Century” celebrating Burbank’s 100 years.
The farmers greeted new and old friends of the 29-year-old market. It is one of the only nonprofit markets in Southern California. Part of the farmers’ proceeds from the market help support the Providence St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, which provides free medical care to as many as 12,000 people a year.
The market continues to accept EBT Advantage Cards, and WIC (Womens, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program) coupons. The Community Service Corner is open to any Burbank service club, non-profit organization and Burbank city department, to inform patrons of the community services available to them.
There are six organic farmers and 24 certified farmers, including eight non-agriculture vendors with items like bread and other baked goods, fish, tamales and soap products.
The market is open 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, except on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Located in the City Hall parking lot, at the corner of Third Street and Orange Grove Avenue, free parking is available in the adjacent parking structures on Orange Grove.
