CHP to conduct sobriety checkpoint in Altadena on Friday

August 30, 2011|By Jason Wells, jason.wells@latimes.com

The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Altadena on Friday, part of a regional crackdown on unsafe driving during the Labor Day weekend.

The agency announced the checkpoint today, noting that the number of arrests and collisions involving drunk drivers typically increases during the summer months. Officers will also be checking for valid driver's licenses during the checkpoint.

In a statement, CHP Capt. Steve Strull, the Altadena area commander, said the point of the announcement was to remind the public to designate a sober driver during the holiday weekend.

"Driving under the influence is inexcusable and has cost the lives of too many people," he said.

The exact location of the checkpoint was not disclosed.
