Goodies support Glendale High PTSA

Concession sales at Nitros football games support the PTSA, and Karen Veloz, Glendale High PTSA president, is appreciative of the volunteer support in keeping the booth running. “As this year is underway, our PTSA theme of ‘Every Parent Involved’ is becoming a reality, as we have had an unprecedented number of parents volunteering with concessions at GHS football games. Never has the saying, ‘many hands make light work,’ been more true,” she said.

Oct. 5 is the second year that the city of Glendale has proclaimed International Walk to School Day. Verdugo Woodlands PTA President Lori Tsaparian invites parents and community to join them at 7:50 a.m. Oct. 5 in the parking lot of the First Congregational Church of Glendale, 2001 Canada Blvd., to recognize this day.

Glendale High’s Reflections program is off to a great start, with the cooperation of art teachers promising to have a wide array of entries, Veloz said.

She also reports that the PTSA is sponsoring a Southern California band competition at Glendale High with its operation of the concessions booth.

“The Southern California School Band and Orchestra Assn. event is on Oct. 22 and is the first time our school has sponsored such a competition,” Veloz said. “Lastly, we look forward to partnering with ASB and the Schools and Community Organizing Resources for Education II grant funds to provide a relevant Red Ribbon Week Oct. 17 to 21.”

Wilson Middle School

Wilson PTSA's annual Gift Wrap Campaign kicks off Oct. 5, announced Historian Linda Guzik. Students are asked to make a commitment to their school by selling at least one item from the catalog. Back to School Night is Oct. 6, when parents may visit their child’s teachers, one class at a time.

These “mini-classes” give parents an overview of what their child is learning, as well as insight into homework policy, grading and special projects. The evening starts at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium, and parents begin classroom visits at 6:30 p.m. Reflections Chair Dana Sledge reports that students have until Oct. 21 to turn in their entries. Art pieces should reflect the theme “Diversity Means ...”
