Glenoaks Elementary School locked down briefly due to nearby robbery

October 24, 2011

Police briefly ordered a lockdown for Glenoaks Elementary School Monday while they searched for two men who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint about a block away, officials said.

School officials said the lockdown, which was issued at 12:25 p.m., lasted about 10 minutes and no injuries were reported.

While officers searched Glenoaks Canyon for the alleged thieves, but no arrests were made.

The robbery occurred about 11:43 a.m. on the 300 block of Mt. Carmel Drive, where the woman told police two men approached her at gunpoint and stole jewelry, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The woman told police that she believed she was followed to her home, he said.

She described the men as black, 24 to 26 years old, with one of the men wearing a black bandana over his head, a black hooded-jacket with white lettering and black pants.
