The Glendale Community College music department offers a wide range of courses in fundamentals, musicianship, harmony, appreciation, history, technology and recording as well as classes in piano, voice and guitar. And the Applied Music Program consists of individual lessons on most instruments and voice along with recital class and performing in ensembles.
Part of the curriculum for many music students is live performance. Performing ensembles will be holding concerts now through mid-December as will individual vocalists and instrumentalists participating in recitals.
On Saturday, Nov. 19 the Saturday Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform together in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the GCC Auditorium. Craig Kupka and Clare Delto are the music directors for the concert which will feature jazz and pop tunes. The Saturday Jazz Band is an all-student group and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble is a small group of auditioned students. The “Big Bad Jazz Band,” featuring auditioned students and experienced jazz players, will give a concert on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium under the direction of Kupka. Admission to either performance is $7 general and $5 for students and seniors.
