Carlos Moorhead

December 05, 2011

Former Congressman Carlos Moorhead passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 89 years old.

An attorney with a heart for helping with legal aid work, Moorhead first ventured into politics in the mid 1960s and was elected to the California Assembly. He successfully ran for the Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena Congressional seat which he would hold for 24 years where he served as minority chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

Moorhead loved serving his constituents, returning to the district most weekends to meet with residents. After retirement, Moorhead stayed involved with civic, church, and educational groups such as the Salvation Army, Glendale Presbyterian Church, and the Glendale Community College Foundation Board, and the Lions Club.

Raised the son of a carpenter, Moorhead learned the value of hard work and forged a fiscally conservative viewpoint. Although a hawk on fiscal and national security issues, Carlos’ genial manner earned him friendship and respect from both sides of the political aisle.
