Congrats to Clark, and to its principal

January 16, 2012

What gratifying and happy news to read of Clark Magnet High School's recognition and much deserved nomination for Blue Ribbon accolades (“Clark gets another Blue Ribbon nomination,” Jan. 10).

Doug Dall, Clark Magnet's principal, and his outstanding, dedicated and professional teachers and staff are a true and shining jewel and treasure in the Glendale Unified School District. Dall's brilliant vision, incredible energy, unwavering commitment to students, strong and devoted trust in his teachers and staff, and his strong and dynamic leadership are a model and an inspiration for other educators throughout California and the nation.

One of my most memorable and very privileged votes as a member of the Glendale Unified board of education was to advocate and cast a vote for Dall as principal and for increasing the school board’s investment in providing additional funds to establish a truly special and unique school for students and our community.

The future of our nation rests on our serious investment in our children and their education. Clearly, our investment in Clark has been well worth it. And our community (and the nation's education leaders) have come to view Clark Magnet with a great deal of respect and appreciation.

Incidentally, over the years, Clark has been a magnet for students fortunate to gain admission and graduate with high proficiency, distinguished achievement and academic honors. Not a year goes by that far more students apply to attend Clark than it can accommodate. An open, public lottery is held annually to select students fortunate enough to attend Clark.

Congratulations and best wishes to students, teachers, staff and the community on Clark Magnet High School being named among the 35 California high schools nominated for National Blue Ribbon — a very much deserved recognition.
