Motorist accused of hitting Glendale police car

A Glendale police patrol car was badly damaged Friday morning when a motorist drove through a red light at the intersection of Brand Boulevard and California Avenue, police said.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but the motorist complained of dizziness, and the officer also had minor knee aches, police said. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The patrol car was stopped for a red light at about 6:27 a.m. eastbound on California Avenue at Brand Boulevard when the light turned green, according to Glendale police reports.

When the patrol car entered the intersection, a motorist traveling north on Brand drove through the red light and struck the car, police said.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, police said.

The patrol car’s onboard video system reportedly recorded the crash.
