Four burglary suspects arrested

Police arrested four men suspected of burglary Tuesday after the men led officers on a brief car chase and then fled on foot into a West Glendale neighborhood, putting the area on lockdown for several hours.

Officers from the Special Enforcement Detail spotted the men running out of a home and getting into a vehicle just after 11:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Everett Street in the Rossmoyne district. The driver refused to pull over, prompting a brief car chase on the Ventura (134) Freeway that ended at the dead end of Circle Seven Drive.

The burglaries in the area where the men first were seen had reportedly resulted in stolen guns, so the men were considered armed and dangerous, prompting ABC7 television studios and the nearby Walt Disney Co. campus to lock down. Police set up a perimeter and searched the neighborhood.

Police dogs found three of the men about 2:05 p.m. hiding inside a home garage on Cosmic Way. No one was home at the time, Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. Their identities were not immediately released Tuesday.

Disney employees were allowed to leave a short time later, but ABC7 studios kept their employees indoors under a self-imposed lockdown out of fear that they might be carjacked by the remaining at-large suspect, Lorenz added.

Burbank police and California Highway Patrol officers aided in monitoring the perimeter as authorities started checking each house for the fourth suspect, who was found around 7 p.m. in a backyard on Cosmic Way, Lorenz said.

He was also tracked down by a police K-9 unit. The man suffered a bite wound after the dog engaged him when he allegedly attempted to flee again, Lorenz said.

Glendale police did not immediately reveal what was found in the car in which the men were riding, but said officers had been patrolling the Rossmoyne district — where the chase started — due to a rash of burglaries reported there.

Handguns were reported stolen in some of the home break-ins, Lorenz said.
