Richard Arthur Redmond

Resident of San JoseRichard was born in Los Angeles,May 5, 1926, one of three siblings. He attended St. Agnes grammar and high schools in Los Angeles. After serving in the U.S. Navyin WWII he returned to California and graduated from Loyola University, Los Angeles. In 1960, he met his wife, Ann, in Palm Springs during a Catholic Alumni Club event and was married in 1961. A loving and caring husband and father, he and his wife reared their family in La Canada, CA.  He was an active member of St. Bede’s parish and served as a lector for many years. Richard published tariffs until 1994 for the Western Bureau of Motor Tariffs. In 1999, he and his wife moved to San Jose.

He enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, hiking in the mountains, and swimming in the ocean. He was president of the Grindelwald Ski Club. He was exceptionally well read. In his recent years he was a great sudoku player and he always enjoyed a good joke. He was an active member of the Holy Name Society at St. Christopher parish in San Jose, the Catholic Alumni Club and the Myositis Association.

Richard died peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, at home surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Ardath Redmond, his brother Frank and 3 grandchildren: James and CJ Evans and Veronica Hoffmann. He will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Ann of San Jose and his 4 daughters; Mary Kay Redmond, (John Duffy), Patty Evans (Ken), Peggy Blach (Don) and Christina Hoffmann (John),his sister Patricia Ziglinski, his longtime caregiver Eric Oliva, numerous nieces and nephews, and his 13 grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at a Funeral Mass Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, 2278 Booksin Ave., San Jose. The presider will be his nephew, Fr. Patrick Bergquist, from the Diocese of Fairbanks, Alaska.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to Catholic Relief Services at crs.org or Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County.
