LA CRESCENTA — The members of the Crescenta Valley High boys' volleyball team looked for a quick start when they faced Glendale in the first of two head-to-head meetings this season.

The Falcons got precisely that en route to a dominant 25-12, 25-9, 25-21 Pacific League home win Wednesday afternoon.

Crescenta Valley (10-5, 4-2 in league) wasted no time getting started against Glendale (1-7, 1-5). The Falcons raced to an 8-0 lead in the first game and the Nitros didn't hold their first lead until early in the third game.

"Starting off fast was what we were looking to focus on," said Crescenta Valley Coach John Nelson, whose team got 10 kills and two aces from Wesley Cormier and nine kills and three aces from Vincent Van Hoek. "We are still working on some different things, but they did a good job starting.

"We want to still smooth out some things with our offense and our serving."

Glendale Coach Ta'ase Mose said the Nitros had no answer in controlling the Falcons.

"CV came out real good in the first two games," Mose said. "Their offense was so quick for us.

"You should play the way CV played. Our defense wasn't there, especially on the serve receives."

Crescenta Valley finished with eight aces, including six in the first game.

Cormier's second ace in the first game gave Crescenta Valley a 12-2 advantage.

A kill by Cormier gave the Falcons a 14-7 lead in the second game.

Glendale played its best game in the finale. The Nitros took their first lead of the match at 3-2 and took a 15-14 lead on an ace by Victor Bernardino. After a serving error by Crescenta Valley tied the match at 18, the Falcons completed the victory on a 7-3 run.

The teams will meet against at 3:30 p.m. April 24 at Glendale.

Glendale will take on host Burroughs in a league match at 3:30 p.m. today. Crescenta Valley will return to action Friday at home in a league contest against Burbank.
