Marilyn Ann Smith: June 29, 1925 - March 20, 2012

Marilyn Ann Smith died at Brotman Hospital in Culver City on March 20th after a week of hospitalization.  In 2005 she had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.  A Culver City resident since 1954, she retained strong ties to Glendale as her home through her youth.  She was born on June 29, 1925 in Oak Park, Illinois to Harold and Ruth Linsday.  The family moved to Glendale in 1937, living on Palmer Avenue while Marilyn attended Roosevelt Junior High School.   She then attended Glendale High, graduating with the class of 1943. Marilyn briefly attended UCLA until contracting flu.  When she recovered, she attended Glendale College.  She married William Jack Smith of Inglewood on September 9, 1946 in the North Glendale United Methodist Church.   The couple settled in Manhattan Beach, while her parents continued to live in Glendale.  Three sons were born to the Smith family, all in Glendale Adventist Hospital.  Mike was born in 1947, followed by Don in 1950 and Larry in 1952.  Mike was hospitalized at Camarillo State Hospital early in life, later diagnosed as autistic.  Marilyn was the heart of the family, assuring that Mike remained an important part of their lives.  She was also a part-time secretary with Robert B. Coleman Jr. Contractors in Beverly Hills through the 60s.  Marilyn was predeceased by her son Mike in 1980 and by her husband Jack in 2005.  She is survived by sons Don and Larry, both graduates of Occidental College.   A memorial service will be held on April 20th at 3:00 p.m. at the Culver City Presbyterian Church, the family church home for over 50 years.
