Taxi driver threatened after driving pair from San Diego to Glendale

May 01, 2012

A man and woman were arrested in Glendale Sunday after one of them allegedly threatened to stab a taxi driver when he insisted the pair pay the $366-fare from San Diego.

The taxi driver picked up the pair — Glendale residents Veronica Madrid, 23, and Raymond Karapetian, 26 — earlier that day in San Diego and drove them to Glendale, racking up the steep fare.

Karapetian’s credit card was allegedly declined and Madrid also failed to come up with payment, according to police.

Karapetian then allegedly asked for a pen, pressed it against the driver’s neck and “told him not to move or he was going to stab him” before running back inside the building, according to police reports.

The cab driver didn’t give chase because he feared his safety and instead called police.

The pair was arrested about 10:10 p.m. in the 200 block of West Lomita.
