As the regular season wound down and the league tournament finals took place, Jack Bouchard and Andrew Cho each had something in common — earning a potential spot in the CIF Southern Section Northern Individual Regional.

The duo clearly needed to be at their best in their respective league individual finals for that to happen.

Bouchard and Cho passed their tests and will next compete in the event, which will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo.

The top 30 plus ties will advance to the CIF Individual Finals at 8 a.m. May 21 at Victoria Country Club in Riverside.

Bouchard, a junior at Flintridge Prep, finished second in the Prep League for the third straight season. Cho, a senior at Crescenta Valley, placed seventh in the Pacific League in his first season on the varsity stage.

Bouchard, a reigning All-Area honoree, was one of four contestants from the Prep League to advance to Monday's competition. Bouchard registered a two-round score of 146 at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 in Pasadena on May 3, finishing six strokes behind Alex Angard of Viewpoint.

Veteran Flintridge Prep Coach Bob Loughrie said Bouchard, who shot a 12-over-par 83 last season in the event at Las Posas, is eager to take part in the event for the third season in a row.

"He's an excellent player and has gotten a lot of experience being in the playoffs," Loughrie said. "There are a lot of good players that will be at Las Posas and he's one of them.

"I think he's got more than enough potential to do well."

Cho grabbed the seventh and final spot available from the Pacific League at the league individual tournament on May 2 at Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia.

Crescenta Valley Coach John Pehar, whose team finished second in league before placing 16th on Monday at the CIF Southern Section Northern Team Divisional at Soule Park in Ojai, said Cho had a practice round at Las Posas on Thursday to get him acclimated to the Ventura County course.

"He went up there and practiced and he saw others who will be playing [Monday] practicing," Pehar said. "He's confident about his ability after struggling during the beginning of the season.

"He's got what it takes to advance. he just needs to work on the mental part of his game."

Burroughs' Kelsey Danzeisen finished eighth in the Pacific League and will be an alternate. Danzeisen reached the Southern California Golf Assn. Regional Qualifier last season and was named to the All-Area team.
