Glendale Community College has received nearly two dozen applications for the interim president job, according to Dean of Human Resources Donna Voogt.

At the close of the application period, 22 people had qualified for consideration.

“We have potentially a pool that will allow us to move forward with the position,” Voogt said. “I am encouraged.”

A task force will convene on June 8 to rank the candidates, which will then be reviewed by the board of trustees. Interviews are scheduled to kick off on June 12, she said.

College officials are taking steps to temporarily replace President/Supt. Dawn Lindsay, who announced last month she had accepted the top job at a community college in Maryland.

Lindsay was named interim president at Glendale Community College in May 2009. One year later, she was hired with a permanent, three-year contract.

The interim likely will serve for one year while the search for a permanent president unfolds. The interim president cannot apply for the permanent job.

Trustees voted Wednesday to contract with an executive search company to assist in the search for the permanent replacement.

“Because this is a very important position to the district, we wanted to do a comprehensive national search,” Voogt said. “This sort of extends the resources of the district to be able to do a thorough job.”

To minimize costs, the search firm will be hired to fill in only where the college falls short, she said.

“They have developed networks of folks who would be good candidates for a position like this and we want to be able to utilize their network,” Voogt said.
