Showing their talents for four seasons around the diamond, Elliot Surrey and Troy Mulcahey proved again to be integral pieces to the puzzle for the Crescenta Valley High baseball team, playing lofty roles in the Falcons winning the Pacific League championship for the first time since 2008. Though the Falcons were eliminated in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs, it didn't detract from the accomplishments Surrey and Mulcahey achieved.
The UC Irvine-bound Surrey, a senior pitcher/first baseman, was named to the All-CIF Division II first team Tuesday. Mulcahey, a senior pitcher/outfielder, earned a spot on the second team.
According to Falcons Coach Phil Torres, members of the Southern Section Baseball Advisory Board also selected a second team based on additional All-CIF nominations from coaches, though it was not released on the CIF's website.
For Surrey, postseason awards are nothing new.
"It's pretty big and it's very humbling," said Surrey, a left-hander who earlier shared the league's co-most valuable player with teammate Kyle Murray after leading the Falcons to a mark of 20-8, 12-2 in league. "It's humbling because you are in there with a lot of great players who did well, too.
