Glendale man pleads not guilty to stabbing brother in argument over car ride

A 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he allegedly stabbed his brother multiple times during an argument over getting a ride to Burbank, officials said.

The man, Robert Godfrey, faces one felony count each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing his 25-year-old brother, according to Los Angeles County district attorney officials.

Godfrey was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder after his brother was stabbed at the home they shared in the 2900 block of East Chevy Chase Drive, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Godfrey’s brother suffered from stab wounds to his right shoulder, right tricep, back and upper torso. He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where doctors also treated him for a collapsed lung, Lorenz said.

The stabbing allegedly occurred after Godfrey declined to give his brother a ride to Burbank and an argument ensued, Lorenz said.

At some point during the argument, the brother armed himself with a BB gun, prompting Godfrey to grab a folding knife, Lorenz added.

Godfrey is due back in court July 16.
