Vanes "Nightmare" Martirosyan recently predicted his fight with Ryan Davis wouldn't get out of the first few rounds.
Turns out it never made it past the weigh-in.
The unbeaten light middleweight and Glendale native (32-0, 20 knockouts) said he got the news while on his way to Friday afternoon's weigh-in that the 10-round bout set for the Nonito Donaire-Jeffrey Mathebula undercard tonight at the Home Depot Center in Carson had been called off because Davis (24-9-3, nine KOs) had failed to clear his medical examination.
"Top Rank [Promotions] was doing everything it can to make the fight still happen, but they're saying no," said Martirosyan, who hasn't fought since Feb. 4. "It sucks. It's never happened to me in 32 fights. I trained really hard for three months and it sucks that it happens like this."
Lee Samuels of Top Rank confirmed the cancellation Friday night via email stating, "Vanes' opponent had a medical issue and as a result the fight is off."
