“Scott’s grand slam was huge in the sense that it was against their ace pitcher,” Mike Vinceri said.
In addition, Jett Costibolo also went deep, hitting a solo home run, while Jaimy Blank went two for three with a two-run single.
In addition to the hit parade, Crescenta Valley also received a solid pitching performance from the combined arms of Blank, Vinceri, Matt Brunner and Justin Parrott, who teamed up to limit Quartz Hill, which eliminated CV last year.
“It was a really good pitching performance by all four to hold a really good offense to four runs,” Mike Vinceri said.
Blank also cut a runner down trying to score when he tossed him out from left field. It was one of a slew of defensive gems, which also included plays by Brian Erickson and Vinceri, according to Coach Vinceri.
“We got a chance to [avenge] ourselves,” Coach Vinceri said.
Crescenta Valley will await Quartz Hill or San Marino, who play today, in a 5 p.m. championship game on Tuesday.
