On the Town: Popular hospital exec moves on

Farewell parties are becoming far too frequent these days as retirements and promotions thin out the ranks of Glendale’s finest. On July 19 Glendale Arts at the Alex Theatre sponsored the goodbye party for Kim Milstien. Milstien, Glendale Adventist’s Business Development Veep, is leaving to take the reins of Simi Valley Hospital. Milstien assumed her new role as President and Chief Executive Officer on July 25.

Glendale Arts CEO Elissa Glickman played hostess to the guest of honor and those coming to wish her farewell. Among the well-wishers were Glendale Adventist fellow staffers Ramella Markarian, director of physician development; and Kerry Nelson, manager of physician relations. Others included Mercy Velazquez, past president of the Glendale Latino Association. More community supporters and Milstien fans on hand were Monica and Jose Sierra.

Milstien served in Adventist Health’s Central California region before coming to Glendale Adventist Medical Center 11 years ago. Expanding the hospital’s outreach into the community, Milstien developed the hospital’s first hospital-based outpatient clinic. The popular clinic focused on spine and orthopedics.

In her downtime, Milstien is a board member of the Glendale YWCA and devotes time to the Salvation Army’s Alegria House and the Glendale Kiwanis. Milstien recently received the “Outstanding Corporate Woman” designation as a Woman in Business awardee from the California State Legislature.

Milstien will be relocating to Simi Valley along with husband Dave and three-year-old daughter Callie.

Project Renewment represents the first wave of retiring women from the 1960s — women’s libbers who worked outside the home in professional careers. Six members of the local chapter gathered July 18 for a barbecue at the La Crescenta home of Eleanor Spaziano. Spaziano, who is also the group’s facilitator, was the hostess with the mostest to fellow La Crescenta resident Margot Nenzell. Others present for the patio dinner of grilled steak, chicken and corn were Pasadena residents Sonia Thomas, Barbara Lester and Molly Kennington. Marnell Land was there from Los Angeles.

Former Glendale resident Graham McMurry was recently married in Battle Creek, Mich. to the former Rebecca Pendlebury of Nantwich, England.

McMurry graduated from Michigan State University and is employed as data collection coordinator at the university.

His parents, Laura McMurry, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Steve McMurry, of Grand Rapids, Mich. are also past residents of Glendale.

The bride and groom will make their home in Lansing, Michigan.
