Glendale neighborhood on lockdown as police search for suspect

August 06, 2012

Police have locked down an entire Glendale neighborhood this morning as they search for one of two men who allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop.

Officers have arrested one of the men, but they are still looking for the second man, who was described as heavy set and Latino or white, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The streets under police lockdown are Ruberta, Justin and Sonora avenues from San Fernando Road and Glenoaks Boulevard, he said.

K-9 units are in the neighborhood aiding in the search.

An officer stopped their vehicle at Ruberta Avenue and San Fernando Road, but, for unknown reasons, they ran away during the traffic stop, Lorenz said.

Soon after, police received numerous calls from residents who said a man was banging on their home doors and begging to be allowed inside, he said.

Police believe the second man could be hiding anywhere in the neighborhood, which has at least two dozen mid-sized apartment complexes, he added.

He urged residents to keep their windows and doors locked and call police if they noticed anyone suspicious in their neighborhood.
