Glendale neighborhood reopened after search for suspect comes up empty

August 06, 2012

Police have reopened a Glendale neighborhood that was put on lockdown as officers searched for a man who fled on foot during a traffic stop.

The man, described as heavy set and Latino or white, was one of two men in a car pulled over by police at Ruberta Avenue and San Fernando Road earlier today. The other man has been arrested.

It was not immediate known why the men fled.

Police received numerous calls from residents who said a man was banging on their home doors and begging to be allowed inside.

For the ensuing search, police locked down Ruberta, Justin and Sonora avenues from San Fernando Road and Glenoaks Boulevard. K-9 units were brought in to assist, but the second man wasn’t found, police said.

Sgt. Tom Lorenz urged residents to keep their windows and doors locked and call police if they noticed anyone suspicious in their neighborhood.
