Glendale to consider more smoking restrictions for apartment buildings

The City Council on Tuesday is set to review several options that could restrict smoking in individual apartment units, bolstering Glendale’s current ban on smoking in common areas and private balconies of multi-unit buildings.

Options include banning smoking in all individual units or limiting smoking-permitted units to specific sections of a building. Apartment owners could get a grace period of five years to implement the changes, according to a city report.

The council is also scheduled to discuss loosening restrictions on smoking in outdoor dining areas, but last year a similar proposal was shot down.

The City Council was scheduled to vote on the proposals last week, but put their review on hold since Councilman Rafi Manoukian was absent.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 613 E. Broadway.
