Falcons sweep in first meet

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley 27, Newbury Park 38, Camarillo 60: Erika Johnson led the way for the Falcons with a second-place mark of 19 minutes 42 seconds at Thursday’s season-opening cluster meet at Mission Oaks Park in Camarillo.

The Falcons’ scoring five packed together and was separated by just 1:02. Hannah Ruby took third in 19:54, followed by fifth-place Megan Melnyk (20:10) and Haley Witzeman (20:12) in sixth. Cali King took 11th in 20:44.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley 28, Camarillo 44, Newbury Park 52: Gabe Collison turned in a stellar effort for CV in its season-opening cluster meet in Camarillo at Mission Oaks Park on Thursday. Collison took second in 15 minutes 54 seconds, just two seconds behind the winner.

Also for CV, Matt Manalo was fourth in 16:26, Nick Beatty in sixth in 16:35, Aaron Esparza in seventh at 16:49 and Andrew Hart in ninth in 17:05.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Alhambra 0: Offense was divided up evenly when the Rebels swept the Moors on the road Thursday, 25-13, 25-18, 25-19, as Dani Motte, Lauren Stiles and Ella Worley each led Prep with eight kills. Setter Katherine Bogaard kept the Rebels’ offense flowing with a team-high 31 assists, as Prep improved to 2-0 in nonleague action and overall this year.

Beverly Hills 3, Crescenta Valley 1: Alison Reik and Micaela Guarino each recorded nine kills, but the Falcons still fell in Thursday’s nonleague road match, 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16.

Kasieh Cases added eight digs and five aces for Crescenta Valley (1-1).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Mayfield 11, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 7: The Tologs dropped a nonleague match to Mayfield Thursday, but Sacred Heart did get a sweep from its freshman doubles team of Nicolette Harutunian and Holly MacVaugh, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.

The loss dropped Flintridge Sacred Heart to 0-2 this season.

Malibu 17, Flintridge Prep 1: Abby Letts claimed the Rebels’ only victory in singles by a score of 6-0, as they fell to the Sharks in a nonleague match on the road Thursday to bring their record to 1-2.

Letts helped lead Prep to its first win of the season Wednesday — a 14-4 victory over Milken Community — as she won two sets, 6-0, 6-0. Roya Gheissari swept her competition in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Helen Yun and Kate Abe Ridgeway also swept, 6-1, 7-5, 6-1.
