A 37-year-old Los Angeles man was killed Friday morning when he lost control of his Chevy Suburban, crashed into a center divider and overturned on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Glendale, snarling the morning commute for hours, officials said.

Glendale Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man, whose name wasn’t immediately available, dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was connecting to the westbound 134 Freeway from the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway about 7 a.m. when his vehicle veered off the road, striking the transition road’s right shoulder, according to the CHP.

He continued driving on the shoulder’s dirt embankment before veering to the left, across a median, toward the Harvey Drive onramp to the 134.

The man then crossed onto the 134 Freeway, where he struck a Toyota Solara. The driver of that car suffered minor injuries, according to CHP.

Witnesses said the man’s vehicle continued traveling out of control before striking the center divider and overturning on the eastbound side of the freeway.

The crash, reported about 7 a.m., closed several lanes on both sides of the 134 Freeway for five hours during the morning commute, backing westbound traffic up from the 2 Freeway into Pasadena.

Police were unable to estimate the vehicle’s speed at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
