Helen McDonagh achieved her goal in her run to be “mayor” of Glendale.

She doesn’t really get to step into the city’s top civic position, which is held by different City Council members on a rotating basis. However, she did reach her $10,000 goal in her faux mayoral campaign last Friday and it all went to support the nonprofit Glendale Healthy Kids.

The organization will use the money to continue offering health services and education to local uninsured and under-insured children, said its new executive director, Sharon Townsend Roth.

“She’s one of our biggest supporters,” Roth said of McDonagh’s ongoing support. “We’re always looking for whatever we can to help the people we need to serve.”

McDonagh, owner of the local Massage Envy, said the contributions came in all sizes. Four were for $500 each, with the first one coming from local dentist Brian Bergh, who has provided dental care through Glendale Healthy Kids for several years.

There were also several $100 donations, as well as many $10 contributions.

“It was all over the place,” McDonagh said.

While she won’t be holding political office, McDonagh said she’s pleased she could help a worthwhile organization.

“It was a good little fundraiser and it was fun and it raised awareness about Glendale Healthy Kids,” she said.
