Andrew "Scotty" Allan May 13, 1922-November 11, 2012

November 26, 2012

“Scotty” was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1922.  During World War II he served in the Merchant Marines and sailed
completely around the world and helped evacuate the women and children from Singapore.

Later, he decided to immigrate to America. He arrived in Hollywood, California on Thanksgiving Day in 1954. He was
surprised that everything was closed on a Thursday until the American holiday of Thanksgiving was explained to him.
He immediately fell in love with California and its weather. The first few months were difficult because he did not
have a job and knew no one in the area. He finally found work as a waiter in the exclusive Perino’s restaurant and
was able to bring his wife, Ellen, and their daughter, Avril, to California. As soon as the law would allow he
became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Of course, he was still very proud to be Scottish and never
quite lost his brogue. He called Southern California “Paradise on Earth” and although he enjoyed traveling all
over the world as well as frequently visiting his homeland, he was always happy to return to California. He lived
in Burbank from 1965 to the present, recently moving to Belmont Village of Burbank where he met many new friends.

Before his retirement, he led the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union as its Secretary Treasurer and Business
Manager for 25 years. He was honored by the State of Israel with its Shalom Award and also its Flame of Truth
Award for his dedication to workers.

He was a wonderful father, a loving grandfather, and a great friend.  He was laughing and joking until the end of
his life, and he brought joy and light to many people.

He is survived by his only daughter, Avril of West Hills, his only grandson, Andrew of Morongo Valley, and his two
great grandchildren Brayden and Brooke Allanbeck.

No flowers, please. Per Andrew’s wishes no funeral or other services are being held.
