Longtime Burbank resident Jerry (Grampa) Walls passed away on December 20, 2012 after a very aggressive battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin on December 5, 1936, Jerry moved to the San Fernando Valley at the age of seven. He attended Burbank schools, starting with Washington Elementary and finishing in 1955 at Burbank High School. Jerry joined the United States Navy just out of high school and shortly after his return he met the love of his life Rita Woods at First Lutheran Church. They were married in that same church a short time later and went on to raise their
three children here in Burbank.

Jerry spent his career working for Pacific Motor Trucking Company in Los Angeles and also served as a Burbank Police Department reserve officer for 12 years.

During the mid 70’s Jerry began coaching youth sports in Burbank for his children’s Softball,
Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball and Flag Football teams. Known for his dedication and passion,
both on and off the field, Jerry took pride in seeing many of his players grow into highly-successful individuals, with many of his players becoming coaches themselves. Jerry served many years on the Ponytail Softball Advisory Board and assisted with the formation of the Burbank Winter ASA league. Jerry was honored in 2007 with an induction into the Burbank Athletic Walk of Fame. He was also the recipient of commendations from the Burbank
City Council and Park and Recreation department when his “Sure Shots” won the 1989 National Class B Softball Championship in Phoenix, Arizona.

A memorial service in Jerry’s honor will be held on December 30th and 1:00pm at George Izay park.
