Flintridge Prep, St. Francis in Pasadena Games: The Rebels’ Alan Yoho and Eric Knowles of the Golden Knights were the only two locals to prove victorious in the 70th annual two-day event at Pasadena City College Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Yoho won the 1,600-meter race in four minutes 35.11 seconds and Knowles was victorious in the triple jump Saturday with a mark of 44 feet 3 inches.

While Gareth Weiss may not have won the pole vault Saturday, it was a historic runner-up mark. The Rebels sophomore standout, who won the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship with a mark of 12 feet 9 inches last year, set a personal and school record of 14, which was only one-upped by Westlake's Paris Pijuan (15-4).

“I thought it was possible,” Weiss said of his record-breaking vault. “I didn't know what would happen but it was definitely possible.

“It's something I've been working toward, it's nice to have finally got it.”

Gareth's twin brother Barrett Weiss took third with a 13.

“I would have liked my brother to have done better,” Gareth said, “but he's very close and I think next time he can get the same thing.”

St. Francis' Caleb Simmeth also took second in the 110 hurdles in 15.16 Saturday.
