Suffering from City Council's lack of vision

April 02, 2013

As one who works in south Glendale and needs to access the area Monday through Friday, I was amazed to read the article, “‘Big idea’ envisions 134 Freeway park,” March 28.

Since when has north of City Hall been considered south Glendale? If our city council had any vision or concern for south Glendale, it would not be enthusiastic about spending billions of dollars for results in 20 years-plus. It could have simply had the vision for the project at Central and Los Feliz to make a wonderful park located in south Glendale for maybe a few million dollars. Instead, it approved another retail center with apartments above for an area that’s already overcrowded and underserved by parks and green belts, causing even more traffic congestion and lack of parking.

Our city council allows the density to grow in this city without supporting our infrastructure, which we pay for in our water and power bills. Council members have taken a perfectly well-run utility and bankrupted it by their transfers to the main budget. Now we suffer from the results for their lack of vision.
