Prosecutors declined to file charges against four Los Angeles men who were arrested this week on suspicion of a "knock-knock" burglary in Chevy Chase Canyon.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office spokeswoman Jane Robison said prosecutors declined to charge the men — Damion Lawson, 21, Alonzo Tolbert, 29, Timothy Bavis, 31, and Antawn Robinson, 32 — due to insufficient evidence.

Robinson and Bavis remained in custody without bail due to a parole holds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The pair reportedly are on parole for burglary.

The four men were arrested Monday after a resident in the 2900 block of St. Gregory Road reported that one of them had knocked on his home's front door and asked for a woman who didn't live there, according to Glendale police.

Soon after, he reportedly saw the same man running from his neighbor's backyard and entering a Chevrolet sedan.

The resident became suspicious and called police.

The Chevy Chase Canyon neighborhood had been recently hit by a series of home burglaries, police said. Witnesses had described the alleged suspects as black, in their 20s to 30s and driving a light-colored Chevrolet sedan.

Officers stopped the men and reported finding found radio scanners, a screwdriver and gloves hidden in a compartment inside the car.

One of the men told officers they were trying to visit the True Religion outlet in Glendale, but they got lost, police said.

While charges were not filed, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said detectives plan to continue working on the case and identify other burglaries the men may have been involved in.

"We don't believe this was their first and failed attempt," he said.
