Miss Therese Jeanne Tomich February 23, 1923 - June 4, 2013

A native of the State of Washington, Miss Therese Tomich lived in Southern CA most of her life.

Therese received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Immaculate Heart College, Hollywood. Therese graduated magma cum laude and was awarded the College Social Work Medal. Upon graduation, she was elected to Kappa Gamma Pi, a national Catholic Honors Society. She did graduate work in social work at the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.

Therese began her career with Catholic Charities as a caseworker and subsequently held positions as supervisor, district director, assistant district director, Region I director, and most recently Regional Director of the San Fernando Pastoral Region.

She was instrumental in establishing Loaves and Fishes, a service center for the homeless and hungry in Glendale, where over 400 families were assisted monthly.

In 1984, Miss Tomich was presented the Benemerenti Medal, a Papal Honor for faithful and meritorious service in the Church. In 1985 she was named Woman of the Year by the Cabrini Literary Guild.

At the time of her death, Therese was a retired Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Therese was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish where she was active in their Holy Family Service Center.

Her volunteer activities included The Women’s League of St John of God, Catholic Charities, and CDA Court Our Lady of the Angels #2599.

Her hobbies included travel, antiques, fine needlework, and porcelain doll making.

Therese is survived by Carroll Jellison, Betty May Adams, Karen Garrett, Brenda Barretto, and Linda Dahms.

Funeral services will be Tuesday June 11, 2013 – 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Church 10834 Moorpark Street, North Hollywood, CA. There will be a private family burial.
