An 81-year-old Glendale man was charged this week with unlawful burning after a neighbor told police she saw him set leaves and her fence on fire.

The man, Martik Yesaian, was charged Tuesday with one count of unlawfully causing a fire in connection with Friday’s incident, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.

Yesaian reportedly used a Bic lighter to set fire to a pile of leaves at Concord Street and Patterson Avenue, according to Glendale police. He then allegedly walked toward a neighbor’s home about 9:11 a.m. and set her fence ablaze.

The neighbor yelled out to Yesaian, but he allegedly responded by saying “no” numerous times as he walked away and back to his home in the 700 block of Concord Street.

Roughly two weeks prior to the fires that were set on Friday, police responded to a similar blaze about a block away in the 700 block of Patterson Avenue.

The homeowner told police that at about 7:27 a.m., a woman knocked on her front door and notified her that her fence was on fire.

Her husband quickly doused the flames, but at the time police were unable to identify any suspects.

In Friday’s incident, police officers called out to Yesaian several times, but he didn’t answer his door. After hearing a loud noise at the rear of the house, officers reported seeing Yesaian

stick his head out the window before quickly ducking inside.

Yesaian reportedly told police he felt as though he was dying, so officers entered his home and found him lying on a bed.

After officers handcuffed him, he was treated by paramedics.
