Though the Crescenta Valley 9-10 Baseball All-Star team came up short in its quest to capture the Section 2 Tournament, Coach Kevin Deitch said his 12 players gained valuable experience.

Crescenta Valley, which captured the District 16 championship, saw its season come to a close Sunday with a 12-2 loss against Arcadia American at Palmdale Little League Fields.

The game was called in the middle of the fourth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

“It was a great experience for each of them, and they all played to their potential,” said Deitch, whose team began the tournament Saturday with an 8-0 loss against Quartz Hill.

“The 10-year-olds provided plenty of leadership and the 9-year-olds learned a lot out there.
“The returning guys should be able to make something of it next year. This team exceeded expectations from my point of view.”

Crescenta Valley scored both of its runs in the fourth. Diego Robles and Jason Kim scored a run each for Crescenta Valley.

Arcadia scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Deitch said Crescenta Valley struggled at times throughout Sunday’s contest.

“We had a hard time making plays defensively,” Deitch said. “We were trying to play catch-up the whole game and it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Crescenta Valley advanced to the Section 2 Tournament with a 14-12 victory against Foothill on July 8 in the if-necessary championship game of the District 16 Tournament at Babe Herman Field.

It registered a 14-7 win against Foothill in the championship contest on July 7.

“There’s a lot of good things that we were able to get done,” Deitch said. “We are proud of what they were able to do.”
