Mountain lion spotted at Monte Vista Elementary

August 14, 2013

A mountain lion was spotted early Wednesday morning at Monte Vista Elementary School in La Crescenta, but hasn’t been seen since then, sheriff's officials said.

A custodian who arrived at the school after 6 a.m. spotted the animal in the parking lot before it leapt over a nearby fence onto neighboring properties.

La Crescenta Sheriff's deputies received a call about the sighting at 6:22 a.m.

They searched the area for the lion, but were unable to find it, according to Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s station officials.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista principal Suzanne Risse made fliers about the sighting and handed them out to parents as they brought their children to school. She also plans to call them tonight with an update.

“It’s not back,” said Sosi Parsegian, a secretary at Monte Vista. “Hopefully, it won’t come back.”
