Young women try out for Tournament of Roses

About 1,000 young women from Pasadena and surrounding communities lined up outside the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn.'s Tournament House on South Orange Grove Boulevard on Saturday to compete for an opportunity to be part on the Royal Court for the Tournament of Roses.

The young women vying for a seat on the 2014 Royal Court conducted interviews with the selection committee from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tryouts will resume at the Tournament House from to 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday.

Seven women will be named to the Royal Court on Oct. 7 and will eventually make more than 100 appearances before the 125th Rose Parade on New Year's Day as they represent their schools, communities and the Tournament of Roses.

The queen of the Royal Court will be announced on Oct. 24.
