After seeing the letters published in the News-Press regarding Twelve Oaks Lodge, I felt the need to speak up; my 91-year-old momma is being affected by the closure.
In 1995 my folks, Howard and Helen Burr, moved to Twelve Oaks with much prompting from their kids. We felt that they needed to be close to us.
Within a year, my mom was without her partner, but yet content that she was so very close to me. Change is hard for all of us but especially hard for seniors. When I went to my momma’s to talk to her about what we were going to do, she simply had a blank stare on her face. Tears started to roll down her face and she began to sob. She said, “I love my home here. I thought this is where I would live for the rest of my life.”
