The La Crescenta Woman's Club's rustic clubhouse, built more than 100 years ago, made the perfect backdrop for the organization’s second annual Western Round-Up on Saturday night.

The ladies decorated the stage with bales of hay, pumpkins, a scarecrow and a large poster of a desert sunset. More than 60 members and guests dressed in western fancy shirts and jeans or skirts.

Leading the soiree were chairwoman Carol Benedetti and president Carol Huntwork. Bre Coe, the junior group's president, taught line-dancing and won for best costume for the gals. Devin Roth won best get-up for the cowboys, vying against Art Galvan and Rick Berger.

At the sound of the dinner bell, the chuck-wagon spread offered homemade meatloaf, mac and cheese, salad and green beans topped off with apple pie a la mode.

Funds raised go to scholarships for graduating high school seniors moseying off to college. They give six scholarships a year — four general scholarships, one for a student studying art and the other for a student seeking a history degree.

Enthusiasm is building among members in anticipation of being honored as Organization of the Year by the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce during its Recognition Dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.
