Community: Couple brightens spirits at tree fest

November 26, 2013|By Joyce Rudolph

For more than 30 years, Diane and Roger Thisdell have been making spirits brighter with the decorations they create for the Assistance League of Glendale's Festival of Trees. Diane Thisdell creates a miniature Christmas tree and Roger Thisdell crafts a wooden rocking horse.

Diane Thisdell's holiday tree will keep with the theme “A Golden Christmas” for this 38th annual event on Dec. 8 at the Glendale Hilton.

“I have done golden garland on the tree with golden bows and a lot of gold ornaments,” she said.

These are just two of many decorations guests can win through drawings at the luncheon. Proceeds benefit the league's charitable endeavors, such as providing backpacks for foster children, school clothes for needy children, SAT seminars for high school students and monthly luncheons for senior adults.

The Festival of Trees will begin with a silent auction at 9:30 a.m. then a luncheon and entertainment at noon. Tickets are $100. For reservations, leave a message at (818) 247-4296.
