Community: Longtime volunteer keeps giving

January 07, 2014|By Joyce Rudolph

Chick Benveniste of Glendale is celebrating her 41st year with Burbank's Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She is president of a City of Hope chapter that she and her husband started in 1966. For the last three years the chapter — Hope is Forever — has raised funds for pajamas and nightgowns for adolescent patients at City of Hope. There are more than 80 members. They raise funds through membership drives and rummage sales.

Benveniste also coordinates theater packages for members. They see three productions a year. She fixes them lunch in her home then they go to Glendale Centre Theatre.

For many years, she has also organized theater trips to “The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies”, which she said is in its final season.

She has also performed for Burbank senior organizations with two groups, the Singing and Dancing Dumplings and the Gingersnaps.
