Alan Merlin Reedy May 18, 1939 - March 15, 2014

April 03, 2014

Alan was the firstborn child of Lois and Merlin Reedy. Born in Burbank, California, he experienced the last years of the Great Depression andWorldWar II through the eyes of a child. He also witnessed the arrival of three younger siblings, Diane, Terry, and Lance “Dana.” In his youth, Alan demonstrated the enterprise and energy that would characterize his adult life. He delivered newspapers, worked as a lifeguard, and went on to start a window washing and lawn mowing business in his teens.

After earning his BA at Whittier College, Alan studied law at the U.C. Berkeley School of Law. He left Berkeley with both his license to practice his law and his Certified Public Accountant license. For five decades he practiced law in Newport Beach, specializing in tax, trust, and estate planning. For Alan, the law was not only a profession, but also a calling. He was committed to helping his clients solve legal problems, plan for the future, and resolve disputes in a manner that brought people together. Those who came to him for counsel left knowing that they has found a wise and thoughtful man whom they could trust to put their interests first.

Alan was supported in his career by his wife Jacqueline, son John and daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Norman, and his three grandchildren. He, in turn, supported their aspirations and proved to be a tower of strength for his family during difficult times.

Shortly before his death, Alan and Jackie celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at a gathering of siblings and cousins. This milestone was an occasion for those who had grown up with Alan to reflect on his admirable career and family life. We celebrate a life well lived, and we wish Alan Godspeed on his journey ahead.
