Letter: New Dodger TV deal bad for fans

April 08, 2014

I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1939. I listened to Red Barber introduce Jackie Robinson in 1947 and Vin Scully in 1950.

In 1951, my parents moved to Glendale. My father and I were thrilled when the Dodgers moved to L.A. in 1958 and as fans we didn’t understand how lucky we were to have the O’Malleys as owners of the team. The fans always came first. When Peter O’Malley sold the team to Fox and then the McCourts, we saw greed for the first time in a Dodger uniform. The new ownership with Magic Johnson gave me hope. But greed is back, the Dodger organization has sold out its fans with a new TV deal. What smart business would sell its product and not ask how it was to be marketed? Sports fans have to step up to the plate and stop supporting this team. Big oil have gouged us at the gas pump, but we don’t have to take it from sports.
