Sports Roundup: Hoover boys' tennis gets big league win

Hoover 10, Burroughs 8: The host Tornadoes earned a key Pacific League victory Tuesday to improve to 6-3 in league. Hoover, which is now tied for third place in league and half a match behind second, received a sweep in doubles from Danny Kim and Chris Ghadimi (6-4, 6-3, 6-1).

Hoover 12, Muir 2: Host Hoover earned a Pacific League victory Tuesday. Fidel Hernandez had four hits and drove in three runs for the Tornadoes. Luis Zamora finished with two hits and drove in a pair of runs for Hoover (10-7, 3-4 in league).

Flintridge Prep 1-9, San Marino 2-6: The Rebels split a regional nonleague doubleheader on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels appeared on the brink of being swept before scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh to take the second game of the doubleheader, 9-6.


Senior Brendan McKiernan helped lead the charge for the Rebels (9-6-1) in the second game by going two for five with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Cole Pilar was three for four with an RBI and a run scored, while junior Isaac Kim was three for five with two runs and Cole Rademacher was two for four with a double, RBI and run scored.

Pilar (1-1) picked up the win in relief in tossing 2 2/3 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts.

In the first game, the contest went into extra innings before San Marino picked up a 2-1 victory in the eighth.

Rebels sophomore pitcher Richard Pan received a no-decision despite a strong start in which the hurler allowed one unearned run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Crescenta Valley 201, Glendale 235: Crescenta Valley picked up a nonleague win Tuesday at Griffith Park’s Harding Course. Paul Park shot an even-par 37 for the Falcons, who received a 38 from David Holeman.

Buckley 216, Flintridge Prep 226: Jonah Sacks had a two-over-par 38 on Tuesday in a Prep League match at Altadena Golf Course. Flintridge Prep dipped to 6-5, 0-5 in league.

Webb 18, Flintridge Prep 2: The visiting Rebels suffered a Prep League defeat Monday. Taylor Yoshida drove in two runs for Flintridge Prep (3-11, 0-6 in league).

Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Prep, St. Francis at Mt. San Antonio College Relays: Junior Ross Niederhaus led the way with an individual local boys’ victory Saturday afternoon as the St. Francis runner captured the seeded 400-meter dash in a time of 48.54 seconds.
