BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Flintridge Prep in Prep League Finals: Rebels senior Alan Yoho was named the Prep League Boys’ Track Most Valuable Player after winning two individual events at the league finals on Thursday evening at Redondo Union High.
Yoho won the 800-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 59.39 seconds after starting the day by capturing the 1,600 in 4:21.75.
The Rebels also received a record-setting effort junior Barrett Weiss, who broke his own school record of 15 feet in the pole vault with a mark of 15-1. Brother Gareth Weiss was runner-up with a vault of 14-7.
Sophomore Jack Van Scoter also notched a win in the 3,200 in 9:52.67, while freshman Warren Hosseinion turned in a surprising victory in the shot put with a toss of 40-1 1/4.
GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Flintridge Prep in Prep League Finals: The Rebels picked up three individual victories at the league finals Thursday evening at Redondo Union High.
Freshman Hanna Barakat captured the 200-meter dash in 26.64, while Sarah Yoho won the 1,600 in 5:18.25 and Ashley Lara took home the 3,200 title in 11:50.19.
Flintridge Prep in Prep League individual tournament: Jonah Sacks of Flintridge Prep had an 10-over-par 82 on Thursday at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 in Pasadena. Sacks finished with a two-round score of 163 after carding an 81 on Tuesday.
Glendale resident Manny Medrano of Pasadena Poly, the reigning league champion, finished fourth with a score of 158 and grabbed the final spot to the CIF Individual Tournament.
St. Francis 198, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 209: Nathan Han of St. Francis shot a one-over-par 37 on Wednesday to share medalist honors in a Mission League match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 . Michael Finney had a 38 and Stian Lintvedt shot a 39, respectively for the Golden Knights (10-4 overall, 9-3 in league).
Holy Family 12, Bishop Conaty-Loretto 11: The Gaels picked up a key Horizon League home victory on Thursday afternoon in walk-off fashion.
Holy Family sophomore shortstop Tabitha Ruiz was walked with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the seventh to push across teammate Sabrina Rufino with the winning run as the Gaels improved to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in league.
Ruiz finished two for four with a homer, three RBI and three runs. Ruiz homered in an eight-run third inning for Holy Family.
Holy Family pitcher Amy Brennan, who fanned nine batters in a complete game effort, was also three for four at the dish.
The Gaels next have a doubleheader showdown at league-leading Alverno (8-5, 3-0) on Tuesday.
Alemany 12, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 4: Visiting Alemany posted four three-run innings versus the Tologs, who fell in a Mission League home contest on Thursday afternoon.
Junior third baseman Kaitlin Powers drove in two runs for the Tologs (9-8, 0-6).
Burroughs 15, Hoover 0 (five innings): The Tornadoes were one-hit in a Pacific League road defeat on Thursday afternoon.
Hoover dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-8 in league this season.
Hoover 3, Glendale 1: Glendale’s boys’ volleyball rivalry match went to the host Tornadoes, who notched a 12-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 victory in Pacific League play on Thursday afternoon.
The victory was the first league win for the Tornadoes, as the squad finished the regular season with a 2-20 overall mark and a 1-11 league record.
Glendale dropped to 2-14 and 1-10 in league.
