Yousefian to appear on Zarian TV show Mayor Bob Yousefian will be Thursday's guest on "The Larry Zarian Forum," a call-in television program. Yousefian will discuss proposed changes to the public comment period at City Council meetings, his lobbying trips to Washington, D.C., and other issues affecting the city. Zarian's show airs at 7 p.m. Thursday on Charter Communications Channel 26. A Burbank man and a Glendale woman were charged in federal court Monday with false impersonation of American Red Cross members to solicit money under false pretenses. Tino Lee,44, of Burbank, and Gina Liz Nicholas, 22, of Glendale, were charged by the U.S. Attorney's office in Los Angeles for impersonating American Red Cross volunteers taking donations for Hurricane Katrina relief outside an electronics store in Burbank. Lee and Nicholas were taken into federal custody on Monday morning by FBI agents at the Burbank Police Department jail, where they had been held since their arrest Thursday night at the Empire Center shopping center.

Jackson Bell John Bresee walked down to the closed-off parking lot of his office building Wednesday searching for a little time away from his desk and a quick bite to eat. The tax accountant found hot dogs, chips and soda at the Internal Building Safety Fair. But, more important, he learned disaster-safety tips and was reassured that his high-rise office building at 611 N. Brand Blvd. is in good hands. "It seems like everyone is making a strong effort to keep this building safe for me," Bresee said of the public-safety agencies in charge of protecting his office in the Glendale Center.

Glendale woman who also pleaded guilty to scam will return to court to face sentencing.LOS ANGELES -- A 44-year-old Burbank man was sentenced to one year in prison Monday for impersonating an American Red Cross volunteer and taking donations under the guise of helping Hurricane Katrina victims. United States District Court Judge George King sentenced Tino Lee to one year and one day in federal prison, court officials said. The U.S. Attorney's office in Los Angeles charged Lee and Gina Liz Nicholas, 22, of Glendale, with false impersonation of American Red Cross members to solicit money under false pretenses.

Marshall Allen MONTROSE -- Pool players don't get many chances to do the world good, said Shane Nicholas, a 28-year-old software developer who plays billiards about three nights a week. Pool is a smoky-room sport usually associated with drinking, she said. "We don't get out in the light a lot ..." Nicholas said. "But we're really good people and can do something for the world." Students in Crescenta Valley schools have donated more than $10,000 to the American Red Cross to aid victims of the tsunamis that struck Southeast Asia Dec. 26. "This money will go to purchase family hygiene kits that will last for six months and family packs with mosquito nets and cooking kits," explained Ron Farina of the Glendale-Crescenta Valley American Red Cross chapter, who accepted the donations. Farina has been kept busy lately going to several Crescenta Valley schools.

Gary Moskowitz One of the most difficult things about keeping people healthy, according to Gail Silverman, is just getting people to walk into a doctor's office. Silverman, the director of community outreach for the Los Angeles chapter of the American Red Cross, was one of about 100 caregivers and volunteers who hosted the 14th annual ARCO Kids Care Fair on Saturday at the Glendale- Crescenta Valley chapter of the American Red Cross. More than 100 people attended the event in Glendale, organizers said.

American Red Cross holds blood drive GLENDALE -- The Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive to replenish local supplies. Donations will be accepted from 1 to 8 p.m. March 13. The drive will be at the chapter, 1501 S. Brand Blvd. Appointments are not necessary, but priority will be given to donors who have called ahead. On Sept. 17, my brother-in-law, Paul Hayden, lost his life in a cave diving accident in Goss Canyon. The events of that day will be ones that I will never forget. This letter is to say "thank you" to all the men and women who were there searching for Paul, and giving the family comfort. The Montrose Search and Rescue, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the American Red Cross, who were there well into the late night, making sure we had food and drink.

Amber Willard TROPICO -- In exchange for their parents' blood, American Red Cross volunteers will scare children today. The group's Glendale chapter Youth Group is sponsoring a Haunted Blood Drive today in which adults can donate blood and their children can go through a free haunted house set up at the chapter office. The blood drive is from noon to 6 p.m. and the haunted house will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. at 1601 S. Brand Blvd. The haunted house will include rooms of ghosts and goblins.
